Sensing (SN)

Taxonomies › Care assistant › Sensing

Suit 01 of 9 · 8 threats, 8 of them life-safety · prefix SN

Sensing threats turn a quiet home into a false reassurance: the device, its radio or its power fails or is subverted, and the silence reads as safety.

Scope: Sensors, wearables, radio links, the home unit and the home it sits in.

Table: Sensing (SN), 8 threats with their mitigation principles and design measures. The full text is in the PDF and Excel downloads on the care assistant taxonomy overview page.

Where this suit touches others

  • Sensing and Interpretation: sensing decides what the system hears; interpretation decides what it makes of it, including what it makes of silence.

  • EOC-SN-K Lost Line: 3G network retirements stranding medical alert systems (United States, 2022).

STRIDE, LINDDUN, CAPEC and CWE

Of the 8 entries here, STRIDE fits 5 cleanly and 3 only loosely. LINDDUN fits none of them. CAPEC 3.9 describes 2 directly, has only a generic parent pattern for 3 and has nothing for 3. CWE 5.0 names the weakness directly for 2, has only a broader weakness for 2 and has nothing for 4. All four frameworks miss 3 of them: no clean STRIDE or LINDDUN prompt, and no direct CAPEC or CWE match. The table below gives the mapping entry by entry, with the names of the CAPEC patterns and CWE weaknesses; what the mapping shows across the whole taxonomy is in Mapping the Care Assistant Threat Taxonomy to STRIDE, LINDDUN, CAPEC and CWE. The Excel, SKOS and STIX downloads carry the same mapping as text.

Table: STRIDE, LINDDUN, CAPEC and CWE mapping for Sensing (SN), 8 threats, with each entry's STRIDE and LINDDUN categories and fit, CAPEC 3.9 patterns and CWE 5.0 weaknesses. The full mapping is in the Excel, SKOS and STIX downloads on the care assistant taxonomy overview page.
